Sandwell residents, businesses and community groups are invited to have their say on the soundness and legal compliance of the Sandwell Local Plan.

The Local Plan is a document that plans for the future development of our borough. It sets out how and where we expect to build the new homes we need up to 2041, and what land is required to accommodate new jobs.

In late 2023 Sandwell Council asked for views on the draft Local Plan. We have reviewed and responded to each consultation response. The feedback received and further technical evidence has been used to refine and improve the Local Plan.

Before the Local Plan is sent to Government to be examined, we are inviting residents and other interested parties to have their say on the soundness and legal compliance of the document. We have provided information about what ‘soundness’ means and what the legal requirements are which can be viewed online.

Comments made at this stage will be considered by the appointed Inspector during the examination process rather than by council officers. Once it has passed examination the council will decide whether to adopt the Local Plan.

You can make comments on soundness and legal compliance between Monday 23 September and Monday 4 November 2024.

You can view the publication documents and complete the digital comments form online. Paper copies of the publication documents and summary document are also available in all Sandwell’s libraries.

Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure, Councillor Peter Hughes, said:

“Great progress has been made preparing the Local Plan which sets out the Council’s plan for the borough’s future. I would encourage all Sandwell residents, businesses and interested people who have comments on the soundness and legality of the plan to share their views.”

If you have any issues accessing the publication documents or would like to arrange to speak to a Planning Policy Officer, please email us or call 0121 569 4054.
