Coronavirus - Closure of council buildings and cancellation of events in response to coronavirus

All Sandwell Council buildings are closed and events are cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This means all events and organised activities in Sandwell’s parks, museums, libraries and at Lightwoods House will not be going ahead.

Public spaces such as local parks and Sandwell Valley currently remain open to the public but members of the public are reminded to ensure they follow government guidelines on social distancing.

Council buildings and local neighbourhood offices are also closed.

Sandwell Council Local offices at Oldbury (Sandwell Council House) and West Bromwich (Court House) and in Rowley Regis, Tipton, Smethwick and Wednesbury are all closed. Smethwick Council House and Wednesbury Town Hall are also closed.

If you need help to access council services, create a MySandwell account. There's also further information about paying bills while council offices are closed.

All large-scale events taking place in Sandwell are cancelled. This includes events organised by Sandwell Council and externally-organised events in Sandwell.

The council will review arrangements and update this page when we have further details.

All libraries in Sandwell are closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

We have a number of measures in place to support our customers:

  • We have extended our loan period for books borrowed until 30 September 2020
  • Customers can renew items up to 12 times. This can be done via our Online Library Services.
  • We are providing instant access to BorrowBox - our free eBook and eAudiobooks service - for new customers who join online. Join a library online.

Customers will receive a temporary membership number, and an email alert which includes a link to create a PIN number. Customers can then sign up to BorrowBox and begin borrowing items immediately.

If you do visit your allotment, we recommend that precautions are taken by all of you to help prevent the spread of the virus, particularly to your tenants who are in ‘at risk’ categories. Holding a meeting in close proximity to others, often in small meeting rooms/huts would not be advisable.
