Books and more

All libraries have a wide range of books and other items for children to borrow. You can borrow up to 36 items in total.

Computers for everyone

All libraries have computers with free internet access that children can use.
If you are aged under 16, all you will need is a parent or whoever looks after you to sign a form, and you are then welcome to use library computers.

Help with your homework

All libraries in Sandwell offer help with homework every day of the week. Staff are always on hand to assist with your enquiries, and libraries also offer a limited number of free photocopies and print outs for homework.
Some libraries also offer special staffed homework help sessions, where computers are set aside just for your use. Again you can also take advantage of some free photocopies and print outs.

Bookstart is a national programme that offers free books to children aged 0 - 4 years to inspire a lifelong love of reading. Two packs are on offer:

Pack 1

This pack is given out when a child is between 0 - 12 months old. Usually at the first visit made by the health visitor.
A health visitor will normally issue you with the pack.  However, if you are unable to get your pack from the health visitor, please contact your local library or children's centre, so that we can arrange for you to collect a pack.

My Treasure Pack

The My Treasure Pack of stories is given out to children at their school nursery or equivalent pre-school setting at 36 - 48 months.

Any eligible child who does not attend a pre-school group can obtain a pack by contacting their local library.

The Story Players have developed many activity sessions suitable for children up to the age of 11. Sessions are a mixture of storytelling, drama, music and art that encourage children to participate in the activity to develop a love of stories, communication skills and increase their confidence.  We aim to foster a love of sharing stories and reading a wide range of texts to encourage reading for pleasure.  We also offer interactive engaging storytelling training packages to practitioners and families.
