Home Improvement Agency
Sandwell’s Home Improvement Agency can provide support to residents who find it difficult to get around their home. You may be struggling to use the bathroom and the kitchen or you may be finding steps and stairs a challenge.
You may benefit from an adaptation to help you to feel safe and confident at home.
An Occupational Therapist will need to assess your needs before we can provide stair lifts or level access showers. You may need something bigger and more complex, which we can help with.
Some adaptations may require a financial assessment. You may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant.
The team can offer advice and support in adapting your home including using Disabled Facilities Grants as well as talking to you about any additional services that might be available to you. The team will also complete inspections after work has been carried out to ensure that you are happy with the service you have received.
For more information about how we can support you, watch this video.
The Policy for the Provision of Assistance is currently under review. However you can view the current 2012 policy here.
As part of the current review the policy has been developed into two draft policies one relating to Private Sector Housing Assistance Policy and one relating to a Policy on Adaptations for Disabled Tenants in Council Housing. Both policies are in draft and set out the offer for Equipment and Adaptations in Sandwell. We would welcome any questions or comments about the draft policies and these can be sent to the Home Improvement Agency via email at Comm_Partnerships@sandwell.gov.uk Please reference which policy your question and/or comment relates to. Please note that the deadline for your feedback is the 27th April 2023.
Thank you for taking the time to read the documents and share your feedback.
