CCTV in Sandwell
Our CCTV system is designed to make Sandwell a safer and more welcoming place at any time of the day or night
There are over 520 cameras in the council's CCTV system covering key areas across Sandwell, all operated from a central control room.
Our operators monitor town centre CCTV as well as our high rise estates and provide remote Concierge services to high rise blocks of flats.
We operate within the guidelines of the national CCTV code of practice, which lays down the requirements for handling and storing data gathered by CCTV and door entry systems. Our CCTV control room is also accredited by the National Security Inspectorate, having met the compliance requirements by the Surveillance Camera Commissioner's code of practice. Our accreditation letter can be found here
This confirms we are compliant with Home Office legislation relating to CCTV operations including Data Protection Act/GDPR, Protection of Freedoms Act and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA)
We also have our own code of practice that gives basic details of our service, what we do and how we do it.
