Non-dependants
Non-dependants are adults who normally share your home but don't rely on you for money.
They are expected to pay some of the rent and Council Tax. That's why we take money off your Housing Benefit and a lower amount of Council Tax Reduction.

Non-dependant deduction rates for Housing Benefit
With effect from 6 April 2020, there will no longer be any rent free weeks for council tenants. This means that rent will be charged over 52 weeks..
We work out the deduction for non-dependant couples on their joint income.

Non-dependant deduction rates for Council Tax Reduction (CTR)
We work out the deduction for non-dependant couples on their joint income. The deduction taken for any non-dependants will depend on whether you are of working age or are a pensioner. The deductions from 1 April 2020 onwards are shown below.
