ServiceThe role of the Public Guardian is to protect people who lack capacity from abuse. The Public Guardian deals with safeguarding but only if an attorney or a deputy has been appointed. He does not deal with general safeguarding issues. The Public Guardian registers Lasting Power of Attorney and Enduring Power of Attorney and supervised deputies appointed by the Court of Protection.

Summary of servicesOPG is responsible for registering lasting and enduring powers of attorney, so that people can choose who they want to make decisions for them.
We maintain the public register of deputies and people who have been given lasting and enduring powers of attorney.

We also supervise and support deputies appointed by the Court of Protection and look into reports of abuse against registered attorneys or deputies.

Cost of serviceLasting Power of Attorney (LPA) registration fee is £110. Deputy fees:  £400 application fee  Plus £500 if the court takes the case to hearing  £100 assessment fee if you’re a new deputy  Supervision fee (depending on what level of supervision the deputy needs).
