Demolished office block site set to provide housing

A tired and out-of-date West Bromwich office block has now been demolished.
Sandwell Council which owned the former Shaftesbury House building on West Bromwich High Street is now looking to redevelop the site.
Councillor Paul Moore, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Shaftesbury House was surplus to the council’s requirements and wasn’t suitable to be refurbished.
“The council’ cabinet took the decision last year to demolish the building and clear the site.
“Our redevelopment preference for the site has always been for housing and an outline planning application was approved by the Planning Committee last month (November).
“We’re now looking to dispose of the site to a partner we can work with to deliver much-needed affordable housing which could potentially be a mix of houses and flats.
“The redevelopment of this site would significantly contribute towards the regeneration of the area.”
Part of the building – which has been vacant for a number of years - previously housed the council’s education offices.
