Highest percentage get top choice school place

Published 16th April 2018

Almost 90 per cent of parents have been offered a place at their first choice of primary school - the highest percentage ever in Sandwell.

Parents applying for school places have been notified today (16 April) of which school their child will be starting in September 2018.

More than 95 per cent have been offered one of their top three choices, and those who didn’t get one of those choices are still offered a place at another Sandwell school. No child will be left without a school place.

The places offered this year show an increase in the number of parents getting their first choice - up three percentage points on last year’s 86.19%.

Chris Ward, Sandwell Council’s director for education, skills and employment said: "It's great that this year we have nine out of ten parents getting their top choice of primary school. This is testament to all the work the council has done to make sure there are enough school places in Sandwell.

"More schools have been expanded and plans for new schools are in the pipeline to make sure we continue to offer places at parents' preferred schools."
