Howzat! Trio of new cricket pitches in Sandwell

Published 26th March 2018

Budding cricketers will be taking wickets on three brand new cricket pitches this spring.

Jubilee Park in Tipton, Bearmore Playing fields in Cradley Heath and Lewisham Park in Smethwick now all have brand new synthetic turf wickets.
The England and Wales Cricket Trust Limited (EWCT) has funded £20,000 towards the cost of the work with Sandwell Council contributing nearly £7,000.
Cabinet member Councillor Paul Moore said: “We know from the work we do in our communities that people wanted to play cricket but there were few places where they could do that.
“These pitches are low maintenance, they’re a quality surface to play on and they’re going to benefit people who are new to the game.”
“It’s fantastic that we now have three brand new cricket pitches for people to enjoy.”

Jason Britton, Development Director for Staffordshire Cricket, said “The investment into the pitches supports our plans to make it easier for people to play the game informally and it’s part of a bigger piece of work in Sandwell to help grow the game.
“From April 2018 we’ll be part of the ECB’s Core Cities programme and we’ll be working hard with local partners and the community to extend cricket’s reach.”
