The main entrance to Heath Lane cemetery in West Bromwich is closed due to damage to the pillars and gates.

A vehicle collided with the gates and brickwork at around 8.30pm on Wednesday (27 September) evening.

Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for neighbourhoods and communities Councillor Syeda Khatun said: “The gates and pillars have suffered extensive damage. That entrance is going to be closed for the foreseeable future while we work to get everything rebuilt and replaced.

“We’d ask mourners to use the Walsall Road entrance, both when visiting the cemetery to lay flowers and attending funerals.

“There may be some queues on the Walsall Road at busy times, such as when we have funerals at the cemetery, and we’d ask drivers to be patient while we get this work done.”

West Midlands Police attended the scene and are investigating the incident.
