Check before you rent app launched

A new app will allow people in Sandwell to make sure they ask the right questions while considering renting a property.
The lists cover what questions a potential tenant should know before they view a property, when they view a property and what they should check before signing any contracts.
The app has been produced by Homestamp Consortium - a partnership of West Midlands Local Authorities including Sandwell Council, Fire Authorities, Police and landlords - and the West Midlands Making Best Use of Stock, a public housing partnership group.
The app records information for prosepctive tenants to review and decide if they want to rent. If they feel the property is of concern, there is an option to report it to the local authority.
Councillor Paul Moore, Sandwell's cabinet member for regeneration and economic investment, said:"It really is important that people understand all the leagl requirements placed on landlords and all the vital questions that should be asked before renting a property.
"It's also a valuable resource for landlords and letting agents."
Neil Griffiths, group manager for Black Country South at West Midlands Fire Service supporting the app, said: "A fire in your home can be devastating but also simple to prevent.
"By considering minor things in the home you are thinking about renting, such as fitted smoke alarms and correctly fitted doors can make a huge difference to your safety."
The app is available as a free download on Apple and Android devices.
