National award for Connexions advice service

The Connexions Sandwell advice team has won a national quality mark for its support to people to make learning and work more accessible.

In May 2012, 84.6% of Sandwell young people aged 16, 17 and 18 were either on a course in sixth form or college, an apprenticeship or training.

Connexions Sandwell also regularly arranges events for young people and their parents or carers to promote the wide range of learning opportunities available in the borough

Connexions Sandwell has gained the national quality standard - known as the Matrix Standard - in six months.

During this time, the organisation reviewed and revised policies and procedures relating to providing services for young people and the development of staff.

Councillor Bob Badham, Sandwell Council's cabinet member for children and families, said: "This achievement demonstrates the professionalism and commitment of all of the staff in supporting young people."

Connexions Sandwell became a part of Sandwell Council in October 2009 and is based at the Connexions Centre, 155-157 High Street, Princess Parade, West Bromwich B70 7QX.
