BMX summer special in Sandwell
Published on 2nd August 2012
Free BMX coaching for children and young people is on offer in Sandwell this month.
Team Extreme is running courses at four locations across the borough, aimed at children aged eight and over.
The venues and dates are:
- Brunswick Park, Wednesbury: Tuesday 7 to Thursday 9 August
- Britannia Park, Rowley Regis: Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 August
- Lightwoods Park, Smethwick: Tuesday 21 to Thursday 23 August
- Victoria Park, Tipton: Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 August
The courses run from 11am to 3pm. Prizes will be up for grabs on final day at each park.
People
should call Sandwell Council's young people's services on 0845
352 8431 for more information. Under
16s taking part
will need to have a permission form signed by a parent or guardian.
The scheme has been expanded to include more locations after a hugely popular run in Victoria Park, Tipton, last summer.
It is being organised by Sandwell Leisure Trust, Sandwell Council, the Friends of Victoria Park and Street Games.
Lisa Rashid, SLT physical activity development officer for Tipton, said: "This type of activity has been requested by young people across the borough and it will provide them with something positive to do during the summer holidays."
Some funding has also come from Sport Relief Community Cash Grants.
Team Extreme is the UK's only professional team
for BMX, Skateboard, Inline & Scooter displays, performers and
coaches.
Sandwell Council's cabinet member for leisure services Councillor Linda Horton said: "This is a great opportunity for young people to practise their skills or pick up new ones."
