Performing Arts group to open Birmingham & Sandwell Mela on Olympic Torch day

A special free event to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic torch in Sandwell at Victoria Park in Smethwick will feature items by members of the Performing Arts group.

Sandwell Performing Arts Group will be opening the Mela and Olympic Celebration at Victoria Park, SmethwickThe Rounds Green group, set up for adults with learning disabilities, will have 20 artists engaging in activities around dance, drama, music and theatre at the Sandwell and Birmingham Mela this weekend.

Group spokeswoman Lisa Oerton, said: "The group has worked very hard and are very excited to be performing in front of such a large audience. 

"Our artists will be on stage at 1pm on Saturday (30 June), with two Olympic-themed routines," she said.

Performing Arts Group will be followed on stage by TV dance sensation Antics.
