New bridge for A41

A new footbridge will be slowly dropped into place over the A41 dual carriageway next week.

Two massive cranes will be used to lower the footbridge into place in three sections.

The work is due to start on Monday, weather permitting, and could take until Tuesday to be completed.

It is the latest part of the massive improvement and underpass work that is taking place on the dual carriageway that runs from the M5 Junction1 to West Bromwich.

Cabinet member for neighbourhood services Councillor Ian Jones said the work had been very carefully planned so that no road closures will be necessary.

He added: "The cranes will be located within the working area. At most there may be some off-peak lane restrictions on the roundabout.

"Traffic flows will be maintained and diversions will be unnecessary."

Once completed, the A41 junction scheme will improve access into West Bromwich town centre and Junction 1 of the M5, reduce delays and congestion for commuters and help increase bus service reliability.

It will also improve pedestrian and cycle links into the town centre.
