The Sandwell six towns challenge
Published on 2nd May 2012
Sandwell Council and the Sandwell branch of the Rambler's Association have again joined forces to organise the borough's six towns challenge walk.
The event is now in its third year and will be run in conjunction with the Sandwell Show held over the August Bank Holiday.
Starting at Sandwell Park Farm in West Bromwich, it links the six towns that make up the Borough of Sandwell and takes place on Sunday August 26.
The 26 mile route includes country parks and open spaces with minimal road walking and makes extensive use of the canal system which was the life blood of the Black Country during its heyday.
Also included is the 1.75 miles of the famous Netherton Tunnel, recently refurbished by British Waterways at a cost of £230,000.
For those feeling daunted by the marathon challenge, shorter 14 and 18 mile walks will also be available.
Starting time for walkers and runners on the 26 mile route is 8am. For those tackling the 18 mile course it is 9am, and the 14 mile route will get under way at 9.30am. All walks will finish by 8pm.
The cost for all three routes for pre-booked entries is £5 (which includes car parking). Entries on the day will be £6 plus car parking of £4. Walkers under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult.
