Keep up to date with school closures this winter
Published on 15th December 2011
Find out if your child's school is closed this winter by following Sandwell Council on Facebook and Twitter.
Our school closures page will be updated as early in the morning as possible with a list of schools that are closed should bad weather hit Sandwell.
We'll then share the details of any schools that are closed on Facebook and Twitter.
Mums and dads are urged to keep an eye on our social media channels in the New Year, in case bad weather affects the return to school for the new term.
So if you're not following us already - please Like our Sandwell page on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.
Sandwell Council's cabinet member for children and families Cllr Bob Badham said: "We don't operate blanket closures of schools in Sandwell so it's down to the head teacher to decide if their school needs to close during the winter.
"That might be due to heavy snowfalls, very icy conditions or sometimes if the heating breaks down.
"Parents need to know if their child's school isn't going to be open and what we want to do is give them that information as early as we can.
"I want to remind schools to make sure they make it their priority to let the council know if they aren't going to be open this winter.
"That means we can get the information on our website and social networks to let parents know so they can make arrangements for their children."
Our Twitter feed and Facebook page are also great ways of finding out about events, news and council services in Sandwell.
