West Bromwich regeneration

West Bromwich town centre is currently undergoing one of the largest regeneration programmes taking place anywhere in the United Kingdom. 

A41 interchange new highway infrastructure

A41 expresswayKey to the regeneration of West Bromwich town centre is the £25 million A41 junction improvement. The junction acts as a key gateway into the town centre and the project will significantly improve access into West Bromwich while cutting congestion for commuters. The junction, which currently carries more than 60,000 vehicles a day, sits at the intersection of the A41 and A4031 and close to J1 of the M5.

Providence Place Office Development

The Providence Place office development, One Providence Place BT Building complete supports both the physical and economic regeneration of West Bromwich by providing the town centre with state of the art office facilities. The development is located on a key gateway into West Bromwich and is the first new office development of its kind in the town since the 1970s.

Dartmouth Park restoration project

Artist drawing of Dartmouth Park Pavilion£6.5million is being spent on restoring Dartmouth Park to its former glory. The showpiece Victorian park sits on the doorstep of West Bromwich town centre and provides visitors and residents with an attractive and high quality green space. The restoration work will include a new visitor centre complete with café, classroom and tree top viewing deck.

Eastern Gateway - Residential led mixed-use scheme

Eastern Gateway - artist drawingThe Eastern Gateway project is a mixed use development which will provide West Bromwich town centre with high quality affordable homes, office space and retail units.

The residential-led scheme is situated between Bull Street, High Street and Overend Street in the town centre.  The £20 million project is being delivered in partnership with Accord Housing and the Homes and Communities Agency and will transform the site into a thriving and attractive modern residential and commercial space.

Sandwell College Central Campus

The new Central Campus of Sandwell College is an iconic building for West College front small webBromwich visible from miles around. Central Campus hosts 10,000 full and part time students, bringing new visitors to the town and supports the ongoing regeneration of West Bromwich.

Situated in Spon Lane and towering above the Ringway, the new college is ideally located by the town's transport links and retail centre. It brings together the three existing campuses of Oldbury, Smethwick and West Bromwich in a state of the art building.

Tesco-led shopping and leisure boost

Tesco Extra Store with new shops; Next, JD Sports and PrimarkLocated in the heart of the town centre, the New Square development will create an excellent new shopping and leisure destination that will dramatically increase the town's retail offering.

As well as being anchored by a Tesco Extra store, the New Square development will feature leisure facilities and a range of high street shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The New Square will connect The Public arts centre with the town's main retail areas, including a new look Queen's Square Shopping Centre.

Oak House Barns Restoration Project

Oak House in West BromwichOak House Museum is a Grade II Listed building dating back to the 17th century and is situated in picturesque grounds close to West Bromwich town centre. A £1.7 million restoration programme will see the historic barns transformed and provide new facilities for visitors, schools and the local community.

The project will see the introduction of a shop, café and classroom as well as a new community meeting room that will be available all year round.

The Lyng new residential development

The Lyng estate sits next to West Bromwich town centre, a short walk from all retail and public transport links.

An attractive, modern extra care housing scheme for older people has been built in Greets Green and boosts the housing offer in West Bromwich.

West Bromwich Town Hall - refurbishment project

Inside West Bromwich Town HallAfter the success of two pilot Comedy Shows at West Bromwich Town Hall, £42,000 is being spent on improving the facilities at the Grade II listed building located on West Bromwich High Street.  This investment will enable the Town Hall to become a regionally significant venue and provide a programme of entertainment for the people of Sandwell in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council. 

Public Realm - improved public spaces

Sandwell Council and its partners are committed to improving these spaces to create an attractive town centre for visitors and investors.

YMCA Western Gateway - mixed-use scheme

The scheme provides a unique mix of supported housing and community services promoting health, skills, enterprise and civic engagement.

Queen's Square - shopping centre refurbishment

Tesco is supporting existing businesses in West Bromwich town centre Queens square new smaller jpegbyhelping refurbish part of Queen's Square Shopping Centre. Work will include a new glass atrium entrance featuring escalators, and a re-modelled shop mall and shop frontages.

West Bromwich Leisure Centre

Man in swimming poolSandwell Council has plans to build a £11 million swimming pool in West Bromwich town centre. Land on the corner of Moor Street and Barton Street has been purchased for the scheme which will also include a learner pool, sports hall, gym and eating area. It is hoped that the complex will open in 2014.

High ropes and cycle hire - new activities at Sandwell Valley Country Park

High Ropes adventure playgroundSandwell Council has teamed up with 'Closer to the Edge' to provide an aerial adventure course and new cycle hire centre. The aerial adventure course opened this summer and features a high rope course 13 metres above ground level. The King George V pavilion has also been converted into a cycle hire facility.
