Getting copy certificates

Information on obtaining copy birth, marriage and death certificates.

Copy Certificates for Births, Marriages and Deaths

Fees quoted are with effect from 1st April 2012 

We can only supply certificates for births, marriages and deaths that occurred in the Sandwell area. Standard certificates contain all the details entered in the register and cost £10.00 each. Cheques payable to "Sandwell MBC"

If the certificate(s) you require are from a Register in current use, the cost is reduced to £4.00 each. this fee will only apply at the time of registration. After registration the fee is £7.00 per certificate.

Information we require

For a birth certificate, please include the full names, date and place of birth, also the parents names and mothers maiden surname if possible.

For a death certificate, please include the full name of the deceased, date and place of death.

For a marriage certificate, please include the full names of the parties to the marriage, the date and the place of marriage.

Priority service

We normally issue and post certificates within four working days of receiving your application.

If however, you do require a certificate urgently. We can offer a 'same day' service for an additional priority fee of £20.00 per certificate. You will need to apply in person, by visiting Sandwell Register Office before 3.30pm on any working day and the certificate will be issued while you wait.

Please note: The priority fee is in addition to the standard certificate fee, currently £10.00 per certificate.

You can also obtain information from West Midlands Births, Marriages and Deaths website, including certain annual indexes for Sandwell, together with an application form for you to download, print and use to make an application.

  • Monday - Wednesday 8.30am - 4.30pm.
  • Thursday 10.00am to 4.30pm
  • Fridays 8.30am - 4.00pm
