Sandwell Register Office COVID-19 Update

June 2020 Update Regarding Ceremonies

Update following the Government's announcement on Wedding ceremonies:

On 2 June 2020 The General Register Office issued updated guidance to Local Registration Services which confirmed that whilst marriages and civil partnerships still cannot go ahead, Notices of Marriage can now start to resume.

The Government made a further announcement on 23 June 2020 that from the 4 July 2020 weddings can go ahead with a maximum of 30 people providing that social distancing is in place.  This will be subject to appropriate measures being put in place to ensure that we can re-open with a safe environment for our staff and customers in accordance with Local Authority and Public Health Guidance.  We are currently closed to the public and are working towards reopening by 1 July 2020, we have submitted detailed plans and a formal request to re-open which will now be considered by the Council's Reset and Recovery Board for approval.  We will receive an update on this in the coming days but at the moment we are not able to confirm an opening date until the Board approve our plans

We are expecting to receive detailed guidance in the next couple of days from the General Register Office following the Government's  announcement which we will need to consider carefully and comply with.

We have reviewed our ceremony rooms and can confirm that the maximum occupancy with social distancing will be:

Highfields Room - 4 people

Sandwell Suite - 30 people

We appreciate your patience and we will contact all customers once the opening date is confirmed to make definite arrangements for ceremonies to take place and will offer appointments for notice to be given.

Further information and updates will be released here, as and when we receive further guidance.
