Our aims

  • We raise money to help fund the purchase of new acquisitions and equipment and to enable the conservation of archives.

  • We organise talks and activities.
  • We promote a better understanding of Sandwell archives in the wider community.
  • We represent the views and needs of archive users.

2015 friends events calendar

All events are held at Sandwell Archives and begin at 2.30pm. Entrance is free for members and £2 for non-members.

Thursday 2 April - Florence Camm

Elaine Williams gives a talk on this remarkable female stained glass artist, and the part that she played in the success of the world famous Smethwick based stained glass company, T W Camm.

Thursday 11 June - Blue Gates and beyond

Mary Bodfish will lead a guided walk and talk around Smethwick. Starting from the Blue Gates, we will discover old farmland, Smethwick New Village, resident gentry and the man in Stoney Lane who met with a most unfortunate accident! - inside if wet

Thursday 17 September - Peaky Blinders

Dr. Chris Upton who was employed by the BBC as a historical adviser for the first series gives a talk on Peaky Blinders.

Thursday 12 November - A date with the archives

Following last year's very successful speed dating format, Mo Waldron, CHAS Outreach Officer, will host another opportunity to enjoy a hands on introduction to various objects from the CHAS collections.
