Spring into Volunteering

You may have recently read in the spring edition of the Sandwell Herald that Sandwell is pioneering a new approach to health and care services, the Sandwell Community Offer.

Six schemes are currently running across the borough and each one is different. Designed to meet the needs the local area and build on the strengths of the local community and groups involved. Between October and December alone 230 people aged 65+ were supported and 15 new volunteers recruited to help deliver the community offer.

Volunteers are vital to the success of the community offer and no matter now much time you can give the schemes co-coordinators would love to hear from you. Just a few minutes of your time could make a big difference to someones life. You can read all about the six offers and how to contact them on page 21 of the spring edition of the Sandwell Herald.

Volunteer Drivers

Across Sandwell volunteer drivers play a vital role in helping people who would otherwise be housebound, lonely and isolated get out and about, transporting them to social events and vital hospital appointments.

One such organisation Transport Solutions is currently seeking new drivers. They support people living with cancer and palliative care needs by providing appropriate transport for numerous hospital appointments. Any competent safe driver with their own car can volunteer and all out of pocket expenses are covered.

To find out more please contact Transport Solutions on 0121 612 2939.

These are just some of the hundreds of volunteering opportunities available across the borough. Please contact the Volunteer Centre Sandwell on 0121 544 8326, to find out more about volunteering and how you can make a difference in Sandwell.
