CCTV in Sandwell

A CCTV cameraOur closed-circuit television (CCTV) system is designed to make Sandwell a safer and more welcoming place at any time of the day or night.

There are over 400 cameras in the council's CCTV system covering Sandwell, all operated from a central control room.

Our operators monitor town centre CCTV as well as controlling door entry for over 2,000 flats.

CCTV code of practice

We operate within the guidelines of the national CCTV code of practice, which lays down the requirements for handling and storing data gathered by CCTV and door entry systems.

This conforms to Home Office legislation covering the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) as well as any relevant British Standards.

We also have our own code of practice that gives basic details of our service, what we do and how we do it.
