Future funding arrangements for Sandwell Visually Impaired

Sandwell Visually Impaired (SVI) is a charity which provides a range of services and activities for visually impaired people in Sandwell.

SVI helps their users to achieve confidence and obtain the skills to enable them to have fulfilled lives.

We carried out a public-facing consultation on the options for future council funding arrangements for SVI, to ensure the views of SVI users – and local people with an interest in the organisation – were gathered before a final decision was made.

The Consultation took place from Wednesday 5 September to Tuesday 31 January 2017.

The options proposed for future funding were:

Option 1: No change to current Council funding arrangements for the organisation.

Option 2: Withdraw council provided funding now.

Option 3: Withdraw Council funding over two years.

How did we consult?

We carried out an online survey and held a special ‘Over to You’ stakeholder event for SVI members and those who support them. We also provided surveys in large font and in screen reader accessible formats, and facilitated a drop-in session that was open to the public.

The consultation activity was promoted through our council website and social media, through SVI's website and newsletter, and in the local news to ensure anyone who wished to contribute to the consultation could do so in a way that best met their preferred communication needs.

The consultation closed on Tuesday 31 January 2017.

We have carefully considered all feedback received, and the consultation findings were presented to Cabinet Members in a report on Wednesday 22 March 2017.
