YMCA: Help for the homeless and more

Artist drawing for new YMCA in Carters Green

The YMCA with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency is investing in a multi-million pound development at the western gateway entrance to West Bromwich town centre. The scheme in Carters Green will refurbish the existing building and provide a mixture of housing and community services that promote health, skills and enterprise. Following the completion of a nursery and youth centre in September 2011, permission was granted in March 2013 for a new gym, cafe, housing and offices. Work is now underway and it is anticipated that the development will be complete during early 2016. Sandwell Council has supported the scheme throughout the design and funding application process.

The YMCA development will:

•    provide homes for vulnerable people, the single homeless and young parents
•    cut rough sleeping
•    promote fitness and well-being in partnership with local health services
•    deliver training and employment programmes, including social enterprise opportunities.
