Taxi and Private Hire licences
The Private Hire and Hackney Carriage trade or the Taxi trade as it is more commonly known, is licensed and regulated by Sandwell's Licensing Office.
When going through the application process it should be noted that first time applicants will be subject to a Criminal History check. Renewal applicants will be required to take a Criminal History check every three years. The Disclosure and Barring Service website has information related to this check. The document "An Applicant's Guide to completing the Disclosure and Barring Service application form" will provide guidance on this process.

Licensed drivers and License applicants who need to book a Medical Assessment with Sandwell Hospital Occupational Health Unit can do so by calling 0121 569 3306. The linked instructions and questionnaire need to be printed, completed, and taken along to the appointment that you book. link to attachments above.
Applicants and existing licence holders wishing to drive a wheelchair accessible private hire vehicle or a hackney carriage will also be required to complete a wheelchair user assessment. You will be assessed on the loading and unloading of a wheelchair into the vehicle, safely restraining the wheelchair according to the manufactures instructions including fitting of the seatbelts in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and current legislation.
