Non-dependants

Non-dependants are adults who normally share your home but don't rely on you for money.

They are expected to pay some of the rent and Council Tax. That's why we take money off your Housing Benefit and a lower amount of Council Tax Reduction.

The charts below show how we adjust your Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction:

Non-dependant deduction rates for Housing Benefit

In Sandwell, council tenants only pay rent over 48 weeks of the year. We convert the deduction we take off for non-dependants to allow for this.

We work out the deduction for non-dependant couples on their joint income.
