Sandwell Council

Getting the money right

Money

The cash available to the council faces unprecedented Government cuts. It is essential we get the best value for money from every pound we spend.

This means:

  • balancing the budget every year
  • maximising efficiencies
  • collecting money (council tax, business rates, rents etc.)
  • tackling benefit fraudsters
  • cutting office costs by making do with fewer buildings, owning those we do use rather than renting them and running them more productively (hot desking, working from home, etc.)
  • selling land and buildings we don't need to raise money for ploughing back into services
  • spending on 'invest to save' projects (energy efficient street lights, for example) that will save cash in the long run
  • using less energy and so cutting costs
  • exploring working in partnership with other councils to share services and so improve efficiency and cut costs
