Activities for all
People need a variety of opportunities - in fitness, sport, culture, etc - to make the most of their free time. The council's role is crucial for young and old alike. Our projects include:
- Oldbury's Jack Judge House library with community room, children's area and free use of computers which opened in March 2011
- new leisure centres in Tipton and West Bromwich with swimming pools and fitness suites
- restoring West Bromwich's historic Oak House and barns
- the new library at Blackheath which opened May 2011
We will also continue to work with partners to open the new Portway Lifestyle Centre in Oldbury, which will include a hydrotherapy pool, a gym and weights area, a dance studio, a climbing wall, a cafeteria and a GP surgery.
Important as they are, buildings are only part of the council's efforts to provide activities for all. We run 'friends and neighbours' schemes to help vulnerable people take a part in community life and we also support community groups.
What will we do?

We have clear plans for the future in this area. Our aim is to continue to develop the things that we do on your behalf so that you, as residents, feel the benefit. Find out more about what we will do.
