Car parks in Sandwell

Free car parks are provided at a number of locations in Sandwell. However, Pay & Display charges apply to the following car parks between 8am - 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Car Park Permits

Monthly/Annual permits are available from the Parking Control Office, 3 St Michaels Court, West Bromwich, West Midlands B70 8ET. Telephone: 0121 553 2453.

Permits for West Bromwich are £30 per month or £300 for 1 year, and may be used in all of Sandwell Council's Long Stay, Pay and Display car parks.

Permits for Oldbury and Blackheath and Wednesbury car parks are £15 per month or £150 for 1 year, and may only be used on the designated long stay car parks as listed above.

Permits for Albert Street, Stafford Street and Victoria Street, Wednesbury are £15 per month or £150 for 1 year, and may only be used on designated roads.

Disabled Badge Holders

A number of spaces are provided in the car parks for use only by disabled badge holders. In the case of the multi-storey this is the whole of Level 1. A valid badge must be correctly displayed on the vehicle if parking in these spaces.Disabled badge holders are exempt from all restrictions on length of stay and from charges. A valid badge must be correctly displayed with disabled symbol side up.

Under new legislation, effective from 29th September 2006, Civil Enforcement Officers have the authority to inspect Blue Badges to authenticate that it is being used legitimately for the benefit of the badge holder.

Sandwell Council and the West Midlands Police will continue to run joint campaigns relating to the blue badge and appropriate action will be taken against abusers of the Blue Badge scheme.

On-street Parking

Pay and display also applies to on-street parking in some streets in central West Bromwich. Most bays are limited to two hours parking at a charge of 20p per 20 minutes. A few bays on the High Street are restricted to 30 minutes maximum parking for 30p.

A few streets outside West Bromwich also have Pay and Display.  The charges and maximum length of parking vary and may be subject to change.  New streets may have Pay and Display introduced from time to time.  You should always check the restrictions and requirements before parking in an on-street parking bay.

Who can park without payment?

  • Charges do not apply to two-wheeled vehicles.  Note that this does not include motor cycles with a sidecar attached
  • Vehicles displaying a valid disabled person's badge may park for any length of time in any marked bay, free of charge.

These exemptions apply to parking in off-street Pay and Display car parks and in on-street Pay and Display bays.

Make sure you park correctly

  • Display a valid ticket clearly so that it can be read by a Civil Enforcement Officers
  • Do not leave old tickets showing
  • Do not stay longer than the time printed on the ticket
  • You must observe the time limits in the car park which are shown on the Pay & Display machines, so do not purchase additional tickets for your stay
  • Always park within the marked out bays.  These have been designed to keep emergency exists free of obstruction and to allow circulation within the car parks.  This also applies to disabled badge holders.
  • Bays marked with a disabled logo must only be used by a vehicle displaying a valid disabled persons badge.

Parking enforcement and penalties

Sandwell employs a parking enforcement contractor, working according to policies and guidelines issued by the Council, in order to ensure that drivers comply with the various parking restrictions, both on-street and off-street.

The penalty for not complying is £70 or £50.  If payment is received within 14 days this will be discounted to £35 or £25.  The penalty which applies depends upon the reason for issuing the penalty.  Further details are available on Traffic Management Act 2004 (Parking)
