Council tax discounts, exemptions and financial help

Discounts

You may be able to apply for a council tax discount to reduce your council tax bill if:

• the property is empty
• only one adult lives there
• you are disabled
• you are a student
• you are a student nurse

Exemptions

There are some dwellings prescribed by government regulations for which no council tax is payable. You may be eligible for a council tax exemption.

Financial help

Anyone who pays rent to the Council, a Private Landlord or an Housing Association can make a claim for housing and council tax benefit.
