Carers Strategy and Commissioning Plan consultation
The Carers Strategy and Commissioning Plan sets out how we propose to reshape support for carers in the next 12 to 18 months. The consultation is now closed, and the results will be included in a report to Sandwell cabinet members. We will publish an update once they have made decisions.
We have been consulting the public on these plans so that we can make sure the final proposals are realistic and fair, and so we understand the impact they may have on different people.
Why we have put these plans together
- Carers want better support, more choice and control.
- More people need support from carers.
- The present system is not fair.
- There is less money for public services.
- Councils will provide less themselves in future.
- It makes good sense to support carers - they are essential partners in delivering services.
The plans deliver a new way of providing services designed with carers.
Main changes proposed
- Access to better information and advice
- Enabling carers to choose your own support, have more control of services, and support each other
- Make it easier to get support at the right time
- Give better value for money
- Give fairer access to support
- Create stronger partnership, more joined up services,
- Changes in the way we contract with providers of services
