Intrepid runners and walkers are being urged to put their best feet forward and sign up for Sandwell’s popular Six Towns Challenge.

  • Location: Dartmouth Park Pavilion
  • Time: 10:30
  • Cost: £6 pre-book/£7 on the day

Sandwell Council and Sandwell Ramblers are organising the challenge which takes in all six towns on 14, 18 and 26-mile routes around the borough.

The event is on Sunday August 28 and starts from the Dartmouth Park Pavillion with routes taking walkers and runners along the borough’s footpaths and canal towpaths.

Mytime Active, which promotes health and well-being within the borough with its Sandwell Stride programme of guided walks, is also involved in the event.

Walkers and runners on the 26 mile route will take in the world famous 1.7 mile (3027 yards) unlit Netherton Tunnel  and  will need to bring their own torches.

  • 26-mile run/walk starts at 8.30am (registration at 7.30am)
  • 18-mile run/walk starts at 9.30am (registration at 8.35am)
  • 14-mile run/walk starts at 10am (registration at 9.30am)

For those who prefer gentler exercise there is five-mile guided walk around Sandwell Valley which starts at 11am from Dartmouth Park after the distance walkers have set out. There is no charge for this walk and no pre-booking, so just turn up at 10.30am to register and join an experienced Walk Leader and team to explore the hidden delights of Sandwell Vallley.

Entry fees for the distance walkers and runners are £6 for those who pre-book and £7 pay on the day. For further details contact Lorna Johnson  on 0121 569 8276.
